Chapter Fourteen

Trace’s chest ached as if his heart had grown two sizes. His need for Bailey and Kellam grew by the ton every minute. Knowing they were less safe away from him helped cement his decision.

He had wrapped his entire body around them both and hadn’t moved for over an hour. Bailey seemed content to sit there, but Kellam squirmed around. He didn’t say what was wrong, though.

“Are you okay, baby?” Trace tried to sooth by chuffing. He had heard those who weren’t dragon shifters liked it sometimes because it reminded them of a cat’s purr. He wasn’t sure if that was the case for Kellam but it wouldn’t hurt anything so he kept it up.

It must have worked because Kellam leaned into Trace. He hadn’t realized how tense Kellam had been until he relaxed. “I’m hungry.”

Oh. Shit. Maybe they had sat there longer than Trace had thought.

“For a pizza,” Bailey whispered.

“Yeah. Pepperoni and onion.” Kellam ran his hand up Trace’s arm.

“Barbeque chicken.” Bailey met his gaze and smiled. And that did permanent damage to Trace’s heart. That part of Trace was already on its last leg. He was ready to hand it over to his boys. “What?”

“What?” Did Trace say something?

“You’re looking at me weird.” Bailey’s dark eyes softened. He had never directed such affection at Trace before.

Trace liked it. A lot. “If you were ugly, I wouldn’t.”

Kellam chuckled. “He said that to me when we first met.”

Bailey rolled his eyes, but he kept his smile. “You’re full of crap.”

Trace shook his head and then reached for his phone. “I am not. But we have a problem to fix, so I don’t have time to argue with you.”

Bailey frowned. “What problem?”

“Kellam’s empty stomach.” Trace handed the phone to Kellam because he sat in front of Bailey, so it was less awkward if he helped Trace rather than Bailey. “I’ve heard there’s a pizza place around here who will deliver. We just have to give him our lot number. Can you find it?”

Kellam took his phone and pressed a button to light it up. “Password.”

“Zero. Six. Zero. Eight.”

“June eighth. That’s my birthday,” Bailey whispered, his eyes widening.

Trace kissed him. “I know.”

Once Kellam had punched in the numbers and the main screen lit up, his gaze snapped to Trace. “It’s us.”

Trace nodded. “My boys.”

Kellam held up the phone for Bailey to see without taking his eyes off Trace. “This means you won’t reject us.”

“I already said I wouldn’t, baby.” He would keep saying it if they needed to hear it.

“I know but a part of me didn’t believe you.” Kellam put the phone down and cupped Trace’s cheek. “We won’t leave you either, Daddy.”

Trace wanted to give Kellam hell for calling him that, but the sentiment behind Kellam’s words meant too much, so he let it go.

And then someone’s stomach growled, and that changed everyone’s focus. Trace chuckled.

Kellam smiled. “Right. Pizza.”

It didn’t take long for Kellam to have a list. “There’s like four pizza places in the immediate area. Which one?”
